how to keep things nice while in storage

I am a bit of a hoarder. I love collecting things and holding on to things for many, many years, but I don't like to allow my home to become cluttered. So, what did I do to ensure that I have the space to keep everything that I want to keep without it invading my home? I rented a storage unit. How do I keep things in perfect condition when they are in storage? My blog will tell you how to store all sorts of things in a storage unit without them becoming damaged as they are being stored away from your home.

RV Storage Saves Your RV From Weather Damage

RV storage can save your RV from many kinds of damage, but the weather and direct sunlight should be major areas of concern for your RV. Here are some of the ways that the weather and sun can damage your RV and information on how an RV storage unit can help:

The rain can get inside the RV

There are a lot of areas that can be prone to leaks in RVs. Some areas known for commonly leaking in an RV include the roof, the roof seams, the windows, the vents, the moldings, the doors, and the skylights. Even if your RV didn't appear to have any leaks when you parked it, there can be leaks that develop as the RV sits. One reason for this is due to some damage that can occur due to the sun, which you will read more about in the section below on sun damage.

The sun can cause a lot of damage to different parts of the RV

Direct sunlight will eventually cause the RV to look bad. The paint will fade and any vinyl decals you may have on the exterior, such as vinyl pinstriping will also fade and can start to peel. The sun will also cause the window seals around the windows to shrink, as well as become brittle. This leaves the windows prone to leaks. This same thing can happen to the vents and other areas that use sealant to prevent moisture and drafts from getting in. Just some of the other things that can be damaged by the sun are the windshield wipers, the tires, and even the interior.

The wind can damage the exterior of your RV

When you have your RV kept outside, the wind will even pose a risk to it. As the wind blows dust and dirt against the RV, the windows can get pitted. That same thing can happen to the paint as well, but it will appear different on the paint than it does on the windows. If the windshield gets too pitted, it will be unsafe to drive the RV until you have the windshield replaced.

Conclusion

An RV storage unit gives you a safe place that's inside to keep the RV, so all those weather and sun-related threats will no longer be a concern. Also, you will be storing your RV where it will be locked up, so you also won't have to worry about criminals getting to it.
