Tips For Storing Kitchen Items

Carelessly stored kitchen items deteriorate faster than those that are carefully stored. Therefore, if you wish to retrieve your stored items in the same state in which you stored them, you need to know the appropriate preparation steps to take. This isn't difficult at all; the following tips will see you store your kitchen utensils safely:

Thoroughly Clean and Dry the Appliances and Utensils

The first thing is to clean and dry all the utensils and appliances. This is a common advice for all storage items, but this is probably one of the times where it's suicidal not to follow it. There are two main reasons for this. First, you shouldn't leave any bits of food on your utensils since they will encourage pests and rodents to attack your stored items. Secondly, moisture will encourage rust on your metallic utensils and decay of your wooden utensils or handles.

Make Use of Original Boxes

Original boxes or packaging is best because they were specifically designed to hold the items in question. This means they have the shape and sturdiness to take care of your items. Therefore, if the original boxes are still available, then make use of them instead of looking for generic boxes.

Label Boxes

In most cases, it's not possible to access the original boxes and packaging for all kitchen appliances, which means you will have to use generic boxes for at least some of the items. Make it a point to label all these generic boxes so that you can easily tell what is stored in each without opening them. Labeling storage boxes is necessary not only for ease of storage but also for helping you know which boxes contain fragile items and shouldn't be stacked.

Protect Sharp Blades

A typical kitchen contains multiple sharp knives that can cause serious injuries and damage if not properly protected during storage. Use protective sleeves before putting all sharp blades and pointed objects in their storage boxes. You don't need to invest in protective sleeves for your knives if you have used cardboards. Just fold a piece of cardboard, use it to cover the sharp edge of the knife, and use tape to hold the cardboard in place.

Of course, the usual storage tips still apply. For example, you still need to confirm the security of the storage facility you have decided to use and ensure that you are getting your money's worth in the contract. A simple consultation with the facility's manager will reveal a lot of useful information in this respect. Check with companies like All American Mini Storage for more information.
