how to keep things nice while in storage

I am a bit of a hoarder. I love collecting things and holding on to things for many, many years, but I don't like to allow my home to become cluttered. So, what did I do to ensure that I have the space to keep everything that I want to keep without it invading my home? I rented a storage unit. How do I keep things in perfect condition when they are in storage? My blog will tell you how to store all sorts of things in a storage unit without them becoming damaged as they are being stored away from your home.

Storage Can Protect Your Boat

If you have a boat, then you need to have a place to store it when it isn't in use. Not only do you need somewhere where the boat can sit for good stretches of time, but you need somewhere to put it that you know will offer it protection from many threats. You can learn about some of those threats and how a boat storage unit can offer your boat that protection here.

Your boat can be damaged by all kinds of weather conditions

Your boat can be damaged by a lot more weather conditions than you may realize. There are many ways the weather can cause damage:

  • The sun can fade the paint
  • The sun can fade the interior
  • The sun and heat can make the interior brittle and lead to cracks
  • The rain can lead to mold and/or mildew
  • The rain can lead to rotting of areas like the carpet
  • The hail can cause damage to the exterior and interior
  • The wind can blow things against the boat that can cause damages

Your boat can be damaged by animals and insects

Another threat to your boat comes in the form of animals and insects. There are many examples of the different ways that animals and insects can cause damage to the boat:

  • Dogs can damage the paint with their claws by jumping on the boat
  • Cats can claw the carpet and the upholstery
  • Cats can urinate inside the boat and cause problems
  • Birds can poop on the boat with acidic feces that will eat the paint
  • Birds can also poop on the interior, which can be damaged from the acids
  • Carpenter ants or termites can destroy wood areas of the boat

Your boat can be damaged by things on the property

There are a lot of other ways that your boat can be damaged just by things that are on the property. For example, if you have your boat parked near a fruit tree, then some fruit may end up in the boat where it can end up staining the upholstery or causing rotting to the carpet. Trees can also drop things like pinecones on the boat that can scratch the paint. Or, the kids can accidentally run their bikes into the boat and cause damage to it. The boat will even be at risk of someone backing their car into it when you have it parked on your own property. Boat storage offers protection from all these types of issues.
